A Trailblazer in the Homeschooling Community
At HomeschoolED Heroes, we are constantly on the lookout for individuals who are not just talking about change but actively creating it. And when it comes to homeschooling, few are as dedicated, passionate, and impactful as Jae Carter, the powerhouse behind the Homeschool Yo Kids Expo (HSYK Expo). Year after year, Jae has tirelessly put together these incredible, family-friendly expos that unite homeschooling families, educators, and organizations, creating a stronger, more supportive community for all.
Jae Carter is more than just an event organizer—she is a visionary leader who saw a gap in the homeschooling community and decided to fill it. Her journey started with a bold mission: to ensure that homeschooling families, particularly those in the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community, had access to the resources, networking opportunities, and inspiration they needed to thrive. What began as a single event has blossomed into a nationwide movement, with Jae traveling across the country to bring homeschoolers, businesses, and experts together in a space designed to inform, uplift, and connect.
The Power of the HSYK Expo
The Homeschool Yo Kids Expo is more than just an event—it’s a lifeline for homeschooling families who often feel isolated in their journey. One of the greatest struggles for homeschooling parents is finding others who understand their challenges and triumphs. It’s not always easy to connect with like-minded parents, educators, or businesses that cater to our unique educational paths. Before discovering the HSYK Expo, many of us at HomeschoolED Heroes had felt the weight of that isolation—searching for curriculum ideas, enrichment programs, and a supportive community that truly understood the homeschooling experience.
But stepping into the HSYK Expo was like stepping into a new world of possibilities. Imagine walking into a large auditorium full of parents, educators, entrepreneurs, and homeschooling pioneers, all there for the same reason—to build, grow, and support each other. This wasn’t just a place to pick up books or listen to a few speakers. This was an empowering space where homeschooling families could find real solutions, build lasting connections, and be reminded that they are not alone in this journey.
Dedication and Entrepreneurial Spirit
Jae’s commitment to making this event happen year after year is nothing short of inspiring. She doesn’t just plan these expos—she lives them, pouring every ounce of her passion into ensuring they provide tangible benefits for attendees. And what makes her even more remarkable? She does all of this while homeschooling her own children and bringing them along for the ride—literally!
Jae and her two daughters embarked on a cross-country road trip from Arizona to Virginia (and other Expo locations), using the travel experience as an educational opportunity. Along the way, her children learned about different states, cultures, and history—proving that learning isn’t confined to a classroom. But beyond education, Jae also used this trip to instill entrepreneurial values in her daughters, giving them first-hand experience in organizing events, engaging with attendees, and even public speaking.
One of the most unforgettable moments of the Expo was seeing Jae’s eldest daughter take the stage as the Mistress of Ceremonies. And let us tell you—she absolutely knocked it out of the park! The confidence, poise, and charisma she displayed was nothing short of incredible, and it was a testament to the kind of hands-on learning and leadership that Jae is instilling in her children.
