Our November L.I.L. Readers session looked a little different this month — and it turned into something truly beautiful.
With Gemari under the weather, we shifted into an online format and hosted the session live from our home studio. This made the lesson even more accessible for families who couldn’t join us on-site, and the energy and engagement stayed just as strong.
The session is now available to watch on our YouTube page for any families who want to replay it or join in at home:

Our Theme: Gratitude & Stories
This month, we explored gratitude — what it means, how it feels, and why it matters.
We began by defining the word “gratitude,” then practiced expressing it in multiple ways:
✨ New Vocabulary✨
Learners wrote down three synonyms for “gratitude”:
appreciation
thanks
gratefulness
These words helped broaden their emotional vocabulary while strengthening reading comprehension and writing skills.
What We’re Grateful For
From there, we shifted into reflection.
Students named things they’re grateful for — not only the obvious big things, but the small, everyday joys and personal qualities we sometimes overlook.
We talked about:
What makes us unique
What we might take for granted
Why it’s important to notice the good in ourselves
How appreciation builds confidence and kindness
It was touching, thoughtful, and a perfect bridge between literacy and emotional growth.
📚 Books That Brought Our Theme to Life
To reinforce these ideas, we read two powerful and uplifting books:
1. Happy Hair by Mechal Renee Roe
A celebration of self-love, confidence, and the beauty in who we are.
It encouraged learners to appreciate and be grateful for the parts of themselves that make them shine.
2. I Want To Be Somebody New by Robert Lopshire
A timeless story about self-acceptance and realizing that the qualities we already have are more special than we think.
Both books gave us opportunities to discuss identity, gratitude, and embracing the uniqueness we bring to the world.

December’s theme explores hope, kindness, and the ways we bring light into our own lives and the lives of others. It will be a beautiful way to close out the year.
Thank you to every family who supported the November session, embraced the online format, and encouraged their children to learn, reflect, and grow with us.
We can’t wait to see you in December!
